This project is a Palladia collaboration with New York City Children's Services (ACS), the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (OASAS), and Bronx community substance abuse providers and is designed to address families at risk. A Credentialed Alcohol Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) Assessment Specialist is at two Division of Child Protection field offices in the Bronx. These specialists conduct face-to-face chemical dependency assessments and referrals for adults and adolescents who are identified by Children's Services and substance abuse consultants from Palladia's Bronx Clinical Consultation Program. They put forth a comprehensive plan for addressing chemical dependency as well as family conflicts that can drive self-medicating behavior. Trained substance abuse treatment providers in the Bronx then handle the referrals and maintain communication with the Children's Services staff and the CASACs in order to address compliance and other issues that may come up during treatment. The CASACs follow up each referral at three months and share results with each of the agencies involved.
