Palladia has
been a leader in recognizing that all family members are part of
an individual’s treatment and recovery. Palladia has pioneered
models of residential services specifically designed for women and
children. Palladia has also been at the forefront of treatment providers
offering enriched and supportive services to the children impacted
by substance abuse and family violence. When appropriate, we assist
parents in reunifying with children from whom they have been separated.
In advocating for a more family-focused approach to substance abuse
treatment, Palladia organized an extremely successful conference
in October of 2004, entitled “A
Better Future for Our Children: Collaborative Approaches to Working
with Substance-Affected Families.” The conference
featured New York City commissioners and national experts. Proceedings
and the conference's Briefing Paper are
currently available here.
Palladia also pioneered one of the first residential treatment programs
for women struggling with both substance abuse and mental illness
and their young children at the
Albert and Mildred Dreitzer Women + Children’s Treatment Center.
Another example of Palladia’s commitment to family-focused
treatment is a special child visiting room at Starhill.
This child-friendly space enhances visits between parents in residential
treatment and their children residing in the community.
Palladia is also participating in an innovative new collaboration
with New York City’s Administration for Children’s Services
(ACS). The
Clinical Consultation Program places teams of Palladia experts
in ACS field offices in the Bronx to assist caseworkers in the areas
of substance abuse, mental health, and domestic violence.
Palladia has launched two specialized child care centers: Palladia’s
Stratford Early Learning Center, located at Stratford
House, and the unique new
Early
Head Start Program at Dreitzer Women and Children’s
Treatment Center.
Palladia provides permanent supportive housing for over 100 families
in four programs with comprehensive services: Stratford
House, Dreitzer
House, Cedar
Tremont (for families headed by a person with HIV), and
our scattered
site housing.
In working with domestic violence victims, Palladia helps mothers
find safety and shelter for themselves and all of their children
at Aegis
and Athena
House.
