Despite the abundance of HIV services in NYC, several gaps remain. Particularly, clients with multiple service needs have trouble accessing adequate care—especially women with children, the homeless, people living with mental illness, and those returning to the community from the criminal justice system. Moreover, housing services are predominately concentrated in Manhattan and south and central Brooklyn, and few sites citywide have the capacity to provide supportive mental health services.

To address this unmet need, Palladia offers a range of services related to HIV, including a strong emphasis on prevention. Palladia’s continued outstanding service in HIV was honored by Mayor Bloomberg in recognition of AIDS Day 2004. Palladia is also a member of the HIV Planning Council of New York City, which advocates on behalf of HIV service providers in the city.

The centerpiece of Palladia’s HIV/AIDS work is our HIV Services Unit, comprised of two outpatient programs, both of which began operation in the early 1990’s. The Community Follow-up Program provides intensive COBRA case management to 400 Medicaid eligible women, men and children living with HIV/AIDS or at risk of infection; Women in Crisis annually reaches out to 87 high-risk women and their partners with a message of prevention education and includes comprehensive transitional case management for men and women with HIV/AIDS who are being released from Rikers Island.

-Palladia operates 3 supportive housing programs, a total of 80 units, for individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS.

-In addition, one of Palladia’s alternative to incarceration programs, the Parole Transition Program, offers 10 dedicated beds to individuals with HIV.

-Palladia conducts 48 HIV-related trainings for both staff and consumers each year.
