Palladia Wins The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's
"Paths to Recovery" Grant
We are pleased to announce that Palladia has been awarded an
18-month grant through Paths to Recovery, a national program
of The Robert
Wood Johnson Foundation. Members of Paths to Recovery, along
with members of the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment’s
Strengthening Treatment Access and Retention (STAR) program,
form the Network
for the Improvement of Addiction Treatment (NIATx), a learning
collaborative to improve treatment access and retention.
The focus of this grant is to bridge the gap
between Outpatient (Palladia’s Continuing Care Treatment facility – West
Harlem, New York) and Residential Treatment (The Starhill Facility,
Bronx, New York).
Palladia’s partnership with NIATx focuses on the four aims
of the NIATx model for addiction treatment providers: Reduce Wait
Times, Reduce No–Shows, Increase Admissions, and Increase
Continuation Rates.
Following the NIATx model, Palladia has developed
an Employee Change Team committee (this committee meets bi-weekly)
and an Executive
Change Team committee (this committee meets in six–week intervals)
to discuss the aims of the project, challenges faced along the
way, and ways to progress the teams’ vision and goals.
The aim of the Executive and Employee Change Teams is to increase
the numbers of women who transfer from residential services (Starhill)
to Continuing Care Treatment (CCT).
Since January 2004, members of Palladia’s
Change Team(s) have implemented key strategies into the day-to-day
activities
of clients in treatment at two Palladia programs, Starhill and
CCT.
These changes have included:
1. Clients are screened/admitted into
CCT services at least 30 days prior to leaving Starhill.
2. CCT staff conduct monthly presentations at Starhill on CCT aftercare
services.
3. The wait time for clients to get an intake appointment at CCT has
decreased from 10 to 7 days.
The Change Team has also identified the “key change event” for
clients seeking aftercare: “ The need to create a seamless
transition from residential to continuing care treatment for each
and every
client.”
Some of the future plans of the Change Team Committee are the
following:
1. Increase client Involvement into the goals of NIATx
2. Pilot test changes and implement new changes into practice
3. Fully implement changes into Starhill and CCT
4. Spread changes learned for male clients within the Palladia population
5. Address client early engagement and continuation of treatment in
aftercare/ Continuing Care Treatment
6. Sustain Changes
